Tubs, hard tops, frames, etc.

A CJ7 hard top will fit a YJ with some small gaps around the door tops. 1982 and later have the same latches as the YJ. Due to spare tire mounting differences the tailgate must be opened before the hatch.

Hard Tops were available for the CJ5 but are very rare. A couple of manufacturers below make hard tops and hard doors. A while back a fellow shared a picture of a CJ-5 HT with roll down windows!

Bikini Tops

The non-drill bikini top is not as robust as the standard bikini that requires drilling.

Soft Top Replacement

BestTop is widely preferred and makes Chrysler's soft tops.

Tinting Plastic Windows

Some top manufacturers sell tinted window replacements. You may also go to an auto reupholster or boat top repair shop and have them replace the current plastic with tinted.

Blake Robinson of Kayline Mfg. had this to say:

"... we will make any of our tops with either light tint or dark tint if you place your order specifying the tint you desire."

Soft Top Maintenance

A post from our very own Jerry Bransford constitutes this section:

"Go to a marine (boat) or aviation supply store and buy a plastic bottle of Maguire's or Novus plastic window scratch remover, and a second bottle of plastic window polish. The first will remove the larger scratches; the polish will do the final polishing out of the fine marks left by the coarser scratch remover. You probably won't find either of the above in an automotive supply store.

Second, after they're polished clear again, be careful how you clean them. Most plastic windows age before they should because many people don't know not to use paper towels to clean them. Paper towels are made from wood products and are 'death' on plastic windows. Only use slightly dampened smooth cotton towels with soapy water to keep from scratching the soft plastic as you wash them.

There's also an aerosol cleaner called Plexus that is a very good cleaner and polish to use on a regular basis. Again, make darned sure that you never allow anyone to use paper towels on your plastic windows!

The curl in your windows should go away if they're fastened in their normal position in the sun. The cold weather doesn't help with stiff plastic! And yes, candle wax [or silicone lubricant] works well on the zippers."

And in another post...

"Finally, a good product to use to clean and protect your soft top, vinyl, dash, fenders, fiberglass, etc. from UV rays is "303 Protectant". You'll find it in RV or boat supply stores, rarely in an automotive store. Expensive but worth it! It does an especially cool job on fiberglass boat hulls too!"

Boat supply stores are also recommended for top repair such as stitching and zipper replacement.
